Nola Marriner, PhD, SLP
Speech and Language Pathologist
LICENSED SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
CERTIFIED PROMPT CLINICIAN
I began my career at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, a large regional hospital in Perth, Australia, working with fluency and adult neurogenic disorders. In 1985 as Director of Speech Pathology at Children's Hospital in Seattle, I developed the Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) clinic, and taught a variety of AAC and assistive technology classes at the University of Washington. In the early 90's I established a private practice and consulting service for agencies throughout the northwest. In the mid 90's I became increasingly interested in teaching the most challenging children not only to communicate but how to talk. Many of these children had autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and apraxia of speech. This led to skill development with PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Motor Phonemic Targets), becoming a PROMPT Certified Clinician (PCC) and a senior instructor with the PROMPT Institute. In 2009 I worked as an AAC sales consultant (adults) in Washington state-north for the largest manufacturer of speech generating devices in the world. With this position I worked with adults with a variety of acquired and degenerative, severely involved, neurogenic disorders.
My personal goal is to bring literacy, speech or communication to those individuals, who for a variety of reasons, are either silent or unable to read or communicate effectively. I enjoy doing this via direct service, consultations and training families and other service providers.
