Physical Therapy
About
Physical Therapy involves the diagnosis, treatment, and management of movement dysfunctions, as well as promotion of wellness through the enhancement of physical functional abilities.
Physical Therapy treatment is directed toward the rehabilitation, maintenance and promotion of optimal physical function. Treatment includes the recovery of current symptoms and the prevention of the progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities that may result from disease, disorder, injury or surgery.
It is important to know that Physical Therapy can be provided only by qualified Physical Therapists or by Physical Therapist Assistants working under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.

What to expect from Physical Therapy at MOSAIC
- All patients should expect quality treatment.
- All treatments are performed by a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant. We do not utilize aides.
- All treatments are on a one-on-one basis. We do not double book.
- All treatments plans are developed for each patient based off of specific goals and individual needs.
We try to keep each patient with one therapist to maximize outcomes with continuity of care. Expect treatment times to last 40-60 minutes.
Treatments offered include:
- Aquatic Therapy - MOSAIC Physical Therapy performs Aquatic Therapy at the Mountlake Terrace pool. Aquatic Therapy is the performance of therapeutic movements, postures or activities in a water environment.
- Balance Training - MOSAIC Physical Therapy has a large activity area and equipment dedicated to balance training and fall prevention. Balance is body's ability to maintain equilibrium with gravity both when still and when moving.
- Gait Training - The therapists at MOSAIC are skilled in techniques to aide in the rhythm, cadence, step, stride and speed of walking.
- Manual Therapy - Hands-on therapy is the cornerstone of treatment at MOSAIC. Manual therapy provides many benefits and involves skilled hand movements intended to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, induce relaxation, mobilize soft tissue and joints, modulate pain and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or restriction.
- Neuromuscular Reeducation - The therapists at MOSAIC also incorporate this hands-on therapeutic technique to improve balance, coordination, posture, kinesthetic sense and proprioception.
- Return-to-Work Conditioning - At MOSAIC, we can utilize our large activity area for the education and training of patients in roles and functions used in the work environment.
- Therapeutic Exercise - All patients at MOSAIC should expect therapeutic exercise as part of their rehabilitation, as it is one of the most important treatments in restoring function. This is the systematic performance of planned physical movements, postures or activities.
- Sports-specific conditioning/training - All of the therapists at MOSAIC were college athletes and can offer experience and expertise in many different areas of sports training and rehabilitation.
- Wellness and Fitness Programs - Lifelong well-being is a goal that the therapists at MOSAIC try to instill in our patients. Individualize programs can be created to aid in attainment of this goal.
Modalities offered include:
The Therapists at MOSAIC take pride in their hands-on approach to rehabilitation. However, at times, modalities are necessary to augment treatment. Physical therapy modalities include a variety of treatment tools used by therapists to decrease pain and inflammation and improve tissue health.
- Electrical Stimulation
- Interferential Electric Stimulation - An electrical current technique to reduce pain, improve range of motion, or promote local healing following injury by increasing blood supply to the affected area.
- Iontophoresis - If ordered by your doctor, the use of electrical current may be used to deliver medication into the body through the skin to help with pain and swelling.
- Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS) - Mild electrical current to relieve stiffness and pain. MOSAIC offers homes units that may be covered by insurance.
- Neuromuscular Electric Stimulation/Russian Stimulation - The use of electrical current to activate specific muscle groups after surgery on injury. Contracting muscles through electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle.
- Heat
- Moist Heat - At MOSAIC, moist hot packs wrapped in towels may be used to help relax muscles and soft tissue before treatment.
- Paraffin Wax - The therapists may use hot wax to heat hands and feet or irregular surfaces of the body.
- Ice
- Ice - After treatment, the therapists at MOSAIC may use ice packs to assist in controlling inflammation, pain and edema, or reducing muscle spasms.
- Ice Massage - Direct application of ice to the skin to decrease pain and inflammation.
- Taping
- McConnell Tape - A popular taping technique based on understanding of the influence of posture on dynamic activities as a causative factor for musculoskeletal symptoms and the beneficial effects of unloading soft tissue, to immediately decrease pain and optimize treatment effects.
- Kinesio Tape - Elastic, latex-free tape that helps re-educate the neuromuscular system, reduce pain, promote healing, promote lymph flow and decrease swelling.
- Ultrasound
- Non-thermal Ultrasound - For acute injuries, the therapists at MOSAIC may used pulsed sound waves absorbed by the body to accelerate tissue healing, and promote the reduction of tissue inflammation.
- Phonophoresis - If ordered by your doctor, you may received localized delivery of medication into the body through the skin by using ultrasound.
- Thermal Ultrasound - For chronic injuries, the therapists at MOSAIC may use continuous sound waves that penetrate the muscles causing deep tissue warming. This may help to reduce or control pain and muscle spasms by increasing circulation and soft tissue flexibility and prepare the tissues for treatment.
